St. Cathrine’s Convent,Tuital

Historical Development : St. Catharine’s convent is located in the Archdiocese of Dhaka, Tuital, Nowabganj. The land was purchased by the SMSM Sisters from Australia. They started their convent in 25 September, 1977. In order to help in their apostolate, they invited SMRA Sisters. Archbishop Michael Rozario permitted SMRA Sisters to stay there and give pastoral service in the parish. Two SMRA Sisters arrived in Tuital on January 23, 1983. They helped the SMSM Sisters in the service of sick people in their hospital, took care of children in teaching catechism in the school. On September 1, 1995, the SMSM Sisters left the convent closing the hospital ministry due to some critical problem. However, the reality has changed. There is no hospital and the main apostolate of the Sisters is teaching and pastoral ministry. Hence, the SMRA Sisters took over the apostolic and pastoral responsibility. Sisters also used to go to Sonabaju village to give pastoral care of the people.

Apostolate: Four Sisters live in the convent. Three of them teach in the high school and one Sister in K.G. School.

Pastoral Services : The Sisters are involved in all parish pastoral activities. They prepare altar and help in liturgical service, take care of YCS, Shishu Mongol, teach cateshism to the children, visit families and pray with them.
