Background: St. Xavier’s School Pahartali is an educational institution run by Dharmapradesh Kartak under Chittagong Dharmapradesh. Seeing the need of the people of Pahartali area, His Excellency the Bishop of Chittagong Dharma Province built the school in 1956. Although the school is a mission school, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians of all faiths study here. There are only 10/15 Christian boys and girls from nursery to eighth grade and a total of 46 teachers of four religions. Initially, it was run by the Canadian Holy Cross as an English medium until 1961. Sister Gabriela Ribeiro took over as RNDM headmistress in 1972 after the Canadian Sisters left. After Sister Gabriela Ribeiro left the RNDM, His Excellency Bishop Joachim Rosario handed over the CMC to the general public. Mrs. Farhad Banu, a Muslim woman, has run the school for the past 31 years. Since 2006, Reverend Bishop Patrick de Rosario has joined CSC Mary Agatha as an assistant teacher. Sister Mary Sangeeta moved to Coconut House in 2009, after which Sister Mary Tapti joined as Head Teacher and Sister Mary Jaya as Assistant Teacher. From the beginning, the bishop’s plan was to arrange accommodation for the sisters in the school. Work on the new building began in 2010 and a small building was provided on one side of the 4th floor for the sisters. Sister Mary Tapti is the headmistress, Sister Maria Garotti is the assistant teacher and Sister Mary Naomi is the librarian. Respected Bishop Majes M. Costa of Dharmapala of Chittagong Dharmapradesh was present at the establishment of the Ashram. Purpose of setting up an ashram: The distance from Jamalkhan to Pahartali is enough. It is very difficult to travel every day, especially on stormy days when there is a strike. All the activities of the school can be supervised permanently. Students and parents can be contacted for information. Children can be given time. Education can be taken care of, besides education, boys and girls can be taken care of a little more in moral and religious matters. Poor children can be helped in return for work. Services: Seeing our beautiful behavior, way of life, boys and girls, teachers, service workers and parents believe in us and accept us as role models. Despite the busy schedule of the school, the Sisters of the Pahartali Ashram visit various families with the Missionaries of Charity Sisters and participate in the Mala Prayer and Christian Yoga. The school currently has four religious students from nursery to 8th grade. Most of them are Muslims. There are very few Christian, Hindu and Buddhist students. The school is a little far from the city so it is noise free. So it is better to study in a quiet environment in solitude. Teachers teach quality with enough sincerity. Every year, the students pass the final examination of 5th class and JSC examination of 8th class. For the first time in 2021, students will write SSC exam. According to the annual plan, the school’s programs such as home sports competitions, educational tours, scout conferences, cultural evenings, debating meetings and national days are taken seriously. He was the chairman of the managing committee for 22 long years and is currently the chairman of the managing committee. In the world of consumerism, there are many challenges in running a school, but with the joint efforts of all, the school work is moving forward by tackling all these challenges.
